All oral languages, even though they are organized in recognizable linguistic systems, are differentiated within them. To cite situations that I know for professional and research reasons, the Sardinian system, the Ladin system, but also the Italian system and certainly the Romagnolo system are. Just as Dovadola’s language is not the same as Riccione’s, so we do not have the same Italian spoken in Perugia, Florence or Ancona. Another thing is the written language, which acts as a glue for the system, as a roof under which the oral varieties gather: this is standardised, and this makes us see the system as unitary.
