A place dedicated to artists and projects that celebrate linguistic diversity around the world.
Thanks to the collaboration with the Municipality of Ostana and local initiatives such as the Ostana Prize and Smallcodes project, an old house in the municipality of Ostana has been transformed into the Maison des Lengas, an “artist’s house” made available for long periods of the year, especially during events related to the Prize, to welcome international guests.
Artists and writers involved in cultural exchanges with other minority communities will be welcome to stay in Ostana for shorter or longer periods, where they will find the right concentration and freedom to work and create.
Furthermore, residing in the Maison des Lengas will be an opportunity to activate or strengthen collaborations and partnerships with the entire network of cultural and tourist actors who, in recent years, have made Ostana a centre of regional (and, in perspective, also national and international) importance for sustainable and cultural tourism, as well as linguistic tourism.
The Ancient Bovero Farmhouse
The Maison des Lengas is located in the ancient ‘Casa Bovero’ in the charming village of Ostana, at the foot of Monviso.
It is a traditional, ancient rural house, typical of the Alpine architecture of the area, one of the last remaining in its context, completely unaltered and untouched by modernisation, but restored to its authentic state.
An architectural treasure restored and now available to the community
The Old Bovero Farmhouse is a valuable architectural asset, one of the last remaining examples of traditional Alpine architecture in its original state, and has a certain impact on the landscape, as it stands out and is visible from many points in the area.
Today, it has been completely restored to its original state.
This operation is part of an overall plan for the “rebirth of the village of Ostana”, which starts from good practices in land and landscape management and is based on the restoration of a community and slow, respectful tourism.
The house, which has now been reborn as the “Maison des Lengas”, is open to artists of all disciplines from all over the world. Whether you are involved in painting, music, writing, visual arts or anything else, you will find the ideal environment here to develop your projects. The residence is designed for artists of all ages and levels of experience.
how to participate
Taking part is simple: download the application form, fill it in with your details and a brief description of your project, focusing on the research and promotion of minority languages and/or literature and music in minority languages. Once completed, sign it and send it by email to: info@smallcodes.com.
Each residency lasts from a minimum of one week to a maximum of three months, with the possibility of extension.
